Exploring Christianity

It is estimated that more than two billion people around the world describe themselves as Christians. Christians are followers of Jesus Christ who would say that discovering him, his teaching and his love for them has transformed their lives.

Exploring the Bible

Find out more about the Bible - the most important book in Christianity. Christians believe it is inspired by God and very relevant for life today but must be interpreted carefully to be understood properly.

Exploring pilgrimage

Many of us are familiar with pilgrimage as meaning a special journey to a special place with a special meaning. It is a concept shared by most faiths, but it’s not just linked to religion.

Exploring churches and cathedrals

Stepping into a cathedral or old church can feel like entering another world: people often experience a sense of ‘otherness’; of escape from the busyness of modern life.

Exploring faith with others

Discovering Christianity and living as a Christian is not meant to be an entirely solo experience. No-one is born knowing all about the Christian faith. Everyone is a learner and we all start from different places.

Exploring prayer

Prayer is communicating with God. Christians believe that God made human beings to have a relationship with him so talking with God is perfectly natural.

Questions

Is God real?

We can’t prove that God exists but there is evidence all around us that suggests that he does. For thousands of years, people have looked at the world around them and the skies above and concluded that they are the work of a creator.

Will anything happen if I pray?

Christians believe that if you pray, God will always hear you. Your prayer might be complicated or simple, whispered or shouted or be a silent cry from deep inside - God will be listening.

Why do so many bad things happen?

Everyone at some time in their life experiences pain or difficulty: from losing a job or the breakdown of a relationship to serious illness, or the loss of a loved one. Coming to terms with the fact that bad things happen is part of being human.

Am I good enough for God?

Most people struggle with life at times. We live in a world where we are constantly invited to compare ourselves to others, especially on social media. It can feel hard to keep pace with everyone else.

Where is my life going?

We all ask ourselves whether our life really has a purpose. The thought might be triggered by a special event, like the birth of a child, or a sad one, like a bereavement or a worrying medical diagnosis.

Is there something beyond death?

It’s a question that troubles most people at some point. What happens when our hearts stop beating and our brain function ceases? Do we carry on in some way? Surely there must be more than this?
